The Gate is a “winemaker’s wine.” It represents the best of the McLaren Vale through blending. Big and bold, this is a seamless, age-worthy wine meant to push the outer limits of Australian Shiraz. Winemaker John Davey’s aim is to use premium fruit from their family vineyard to produce a rich complex wine with the ripeness that comes out of the McLaren Vale. This is achieved by picking the grapes when they have reached full-flavor ripeness and ensuring that maximum flavor and structure is captured during fermentation before careful oak maturation. The wines are then bottled with minimum filtration to ensure that nothing is lost. The result of having complete control of the winemaking process from the vine right through the bottle is a wine of quality, balance and pedigree.
